Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer (All Levels) based in the United States.

This opportunity is designed for software engineers who want to solve complex technical challenges while contributing to transformative scientific and industrial innovation.
You will build advanced software systems that make critical data more accessible, actionable, and valuable for scientific teams.
The role combines hands-on engineering, product thinking, and close collaboration with experts across data science, geology, and exploration.
You will take ownership of impactful projects, from defining technical solutions to deploying scalable systems used in real-world applications.
Working in a fast-moving environment, you will help shape technology that supports the discovery of essential resources needed for the global energy transition.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy ambiguity, continuous learning, and building solutions that create meaningful long-term impact.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain production-quality software systems that enable advanced data analysis and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with scientific experts, data scientists, and engineering teams to understand challenges and create effective technology solutions.
  • Build scalable data pipelines, internal tools, and software platforms that transform complex datasets into actionable insights for users.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of projects, including problem definition, system design, implementation, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop deep expertise in internal data systems and understand how software solutions contribute to broader business and scientific objectives.
  • Lead or contribute to engineering initiatives, including mentoring teammates and supporting successful project delivery.
  • Improve system reliability by monitoring services, addressing operational challenges, and supporting users of internal tools.
  • Participate in technical discussions, provide thoughtful feedback, and contribute to a culture of high-quality engineering practices.
  • Work directly with end users to understand their workflows and ensure technology solutions effectively address real-world needs.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, ideally building production-level cloud-based data systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience writing clean, scalable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Ability to design and build large-scale systems while considering performance, reliability, and extensibility.
  • Demonstrated ownership of projects from initial problem definition through successful implementation and measurable impact.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and intellectual curiosity with a willingness to learn new domains and technologies.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and domain experts.
  • Interest in working closely with scientific teams and applying technology to solve challenging real-world problems.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with changing priorities and a high level of ownership.
  • Product-oriented mindset with the ability to identify the right technical solutions based on business objectives.
  • Nice-to-have experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, geospatial data, mapping applications, containerization technologies, Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, or natural sciences.

Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary range of approximately $150,000 - $240,000 USD, depending on experience, skills, and impact.
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility to collaborate from approved locations.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative technology at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data systems, and scientific discovery.
  • Chance to contribute to projects with meaningful global impact, including supporting the transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
  • Direct collaboration with talented engineers, data scientists, and industry experts.
  • High ownership environment that encourages experimentation, learning, and technical excellence.
  • Opportunities to grow professionally while solving complex and meaningful engineering challenges.
  • Possibility of occasional field visits to better understand users, workflows, and the real-world impact of developed solutions.
