Job Description

Job Purpose The job of "Assistant Principal – Middle School" is to maintain overall school site operations; receive, distribute, and communicate information to enforce school, district, and state policies; maintain the safety of the school environment; coordinate site activities; communicate information to staff; and address situations, problems, and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school. Attendance and Duties This position is Monday–Friday, 215 days per year. It is 0.7 FTE Assistant Principal and 0.3 FTE hiCap position with additional responsibilities. Applicants must have or be willing to achieve a Washington state administrative credential. Secondary administrative experience is preferred. Experience overseeing athletics, ASB, safety, discipline, hiring, and evaluations is desired. Essential Job Functions Facilitate or participate in meetings (e.g., curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, athletics, etc.) to coordinate activities and ensure outcomes achieve school, district, and state objectives. Coordinate and oversee athletics. Evaluate personnel to ensure standards are achieved and performance is maximized. Facilitate communication between personnel, students, and/or parents to evaluate situations, solve problems, and/or resolve conflicts. Assist in hiring personnel to provide staff recommendations to the School Board. Manage various school administrative functions (i.e., student discipline policy, school schedules, assigned personnel, etc.) to maintain safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines. Prepare various written documents (e.g., correspondence, reports, analyses, etc.) to provide written support and/or convey information. Develop, monitor, and implement the building safety plan. Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students and/or parents to assist students in modifying behavior, develop interpersonal skills, and/or initiate disciplinary action. Support Principal to assist with their job functions of maintaining overall school site operation. Develop and monitor restorative practices. Represent the school within community forums to maintain ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assist with issues related to the school environment. Supervise instructional personnel to monitor performance, provide professional growth, and achieve overall objectives of the school’s curriculum. Other Job Functions Assist other personnel as may be required to support them in completing their work activities. Qualifications Experience Required: Prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in a school setting. Skills: Ability to manage personnel and programs, communicate effectively, problem-solve; Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies. Abilities: Sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others, make independent judgments, keep accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, articulate in oral and written form. Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Appropriate Administrative Services Credential, valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability, criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
