Position Overview Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and maintaining workplace health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role helps promote a safe work environment by identifying hazards, implementing preventive measures, and fostering a culture of proactive safety across the project. Responsibilities Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Nevada Mine Safety and Training Section (MSATS), and environmental agencies. Conducts routine workplace inspections and safety audits. Identifies hazards and recommends corrective actions. Supports incident investigations and prepares detailed reports. Maintains safety records, logs, and documentation. Coordinates safety training programs and employee onboarding related to health and safety. Monitors workplace conditions (air quality, noise levels, chemical exposure, etc.). Assists with emergency preparation and response planning. Collaborates with management to improve safety culture and reduce risks. Tracks and reports key health and safety performance metrics. Performs other business-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience 3+ years’ experience in a mining, heavy construction or industrial health & safety role Certified MSHA Instructor (IS) considered an asset Basic working knowledge of surface mining and construction activities Knowledge of MSHA 30 CFR and environmental compliance standards. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing priorities. Effective communication and people skills to collaborate with team members, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
