Job Summary:

Deep Fission is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our growing engineering team. The CAD Designer will play a critical role in translating engineering concepts into precise technical drawings, 3D models, and design documentation for nuclear reactor components, facility layouts, and supporting infrastructure. This position requires a strong command of CAD software, an understanding of engineering design principles, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create, modify, and maintain detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of nuclear reactor components, piping systems, structural elements, and facility layouts using industry-standard CAD software (PTC CREO, SolidWorks, and/or NX-CAD).
• Collaborate with mechanical, structural, electrical, and nuclear engineers to develop accurate design documentation that meets project specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Generate assembly drawings, fabrication details, bills of materials (BOMs), and general arrangement drawings for manufacturing, construction, and installation teams.
• Interpret and incorporate engineering calculations, P&IDs, and design specifications into technical drawings and models.
• Ensure all drawings and models adhere to ASME, NRC, and other applicable nuclear industry codes and standards.
• Perform design reviews and redline markups, incorporating feedback from engineering leads and quality assurance teams.
• Maintain organized and version-controlled drawing files within the company's document management system, ensuring proper revision tracking.
• Support the development of 3D facility models for spatial coordination, interference checking, and construction planning.
• Assist in the preparation of design packages for regulatory submittals and licensing documentation.
• Participate in design coordination meetings, contributing technical input and identifying potential design conflicts or constructability issues.
• Stay current with CAD technology advancements and recommend improvements to design workflows and tools.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Drafting/Design Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a CAD Designer or Drafter in an engineering, construction, or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as PTC CREO, NX-CAD or Solidworks
• Experience creating technical drawings for mechanical systems, piping, structural, or facility design.
• Solid understanding of engineering drawing standards, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and drafting best practices.
• Familiarity with ASME codes and standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5, ASME Section VIII or III) is a strong plus.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering specifications, P&IDs, and technical data sheets.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in all deliverables.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States.

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Prior experience in nuclear energy, power generation, or DOE-regulated industries.
• Familiarity with pressurized water reactors and heat exchanger design.
• Experience supporting design efforts during construction or commissioning phases of large-scale industrial projects.
• Proficiency in creating parametric models and designing automation workflows.
• Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering concepts, principles, and theories
